Aria Rostami is a New York-based artist who has released music on a variety of labels, including some favourites of mine such as Spring Theory, Dark Entries, Geographic North and Jacktone. He also regularly puts out his own music, and that’s what he’s doing this week with his fascinating new album. Entitled Several Days From Now You Will Be Invited To Complete An Online Survey and out today on his own Intimate Inanimate label, it’s a gorgeous spread of electronic sound, with heavily textured uptempo music reminiscent of Barker’s recent work, as well as undulating ambient swathes that envelop you in their thickness. He’s put together a mix that features some of his own music alongside that of artists like Loscil, Mica Levi, Neinzer and the combined talents of Jóhann Jóhannsson with Hildur Guðnadóttir and Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe. Like the softest and most heartfelt moments of the album, it features delicate points and thronged, gigantic sounds, intimate thoughts and expansive ideas. Not to be all IN THESE TIMES, but it is quite a balm.
