Seems there's a lot to say. Excuse the lengthy blurbs.
VA - Extended Family Comp 1 (1432 R)
1432 R are among the best out there, but this past fortnight has seen them truly extend themselves. First there was a wonderful interview on Truants, tying in with the release of Sami%SuYung's Ethics EP. They also appeared on Beats In Space, dropping a superb mix of largely forthcoming jams, and on the same day released this FREE comp. It's full of bangers, my favourites being Ocobaya's 'Perspec', Sami & Dawit's 'Terrebone County' and Scattergood's 'Sophia'. Proceeds are going to the ACLU, if you choose to contribute.
BEAST NEST "Taste Of India"
This release from Sharmi Basu came out last summer, but just came to my attention. The artist's bio is something else: "She utilizes an unwavering depression & restrained horror to channel left-eyed spirits. While simultaneously clearing and entering, the sewage pipes of the body and the patriarchy congeal into watery soundscapes as a vehicle for achieving liberation through the darkest of fears." Basu is a multidisciplinary artist who offers services from Tarot and Reiki to mixing and mastering, as well as teaching and performing music. This is a two-part experimental piece, in which Basu plays around with ambient and new-age tropes, noise aesthetics and sound art.
Russell E.L. Butler - I'm Dropping Out Of Life
This is a gorgeously varied release, pulled every way across the house/techno/electro spectrum. It's made even more poignant by the artist's statement about how it's a response to his experience in the Ghost Ship fire last year. "This release is about a commitment to life. The life that I refer to dropping out of, is a life where dreams are put on hold, where concessions are made in order to just survive. But that comes at a cost, one that is far too great for me to pay at this point." 'A New Day' is a spacey electro cut, 'Hat Hair' is bright and almost frivolous (like the title). 'My Cat Is An Asshole' is a sparse drum machine workout, while the title track is dark and hypnotic.
Richard von der Schulenburg - Wanderung durch Wald und Flur
Will VIS ever put out a bad release? As usual this is some creepy weird proto-electronic stuff, vaguely radiophonic, almost BoC-like in its childlike rumblings. The title means "Hike through forest and corridor", and the track titles include "Summer evening at Lake Boberger" and "Grass growing in the Holtenhus garden". Isn't that lovely?

Sylvia Monnier - "Theresa Russell"
Sylvia Monnier has a tape coming on Sacred Phrases next month called Stock Shot & Addictive Sling, and this is the first taste. Dreamy ambient with birdsong and lake water lapping, it's both dreamily content and filled with anxious tension.
Snezhana Reise - IV
This is an album in a single SoundCloud stream, starting off with dark space ambient before moving towards trippy electronic beats and juddering beatless techno.
Lokier live at Griessmuehle // Tropical Goth party
Tropical Goth! This sounds like you'd expect. Two hours of gnarly, EBM-inspired techno with flavour and edge from this Mexican DJ, recorded at a recent party in Berlin.
Grey Area : Podcast 009 - Milena Kriegs [Live]
Similarly dark and foreboding, this podcast comes from Warsaw's Milena Kriegs. It's all her own stuff, and while it's largely deep and submerged techno, she takes trips through varying strands of that style, with different patterns, levels and moods.
Dummy Mix 478 // Jamz Supernova
London radio and club DJ Jamz Supernova whips up a high-energy mix for Dummy to show off her party style. Expect grime, tribal drums and lots of cut-ups and instrumentals of big names. Plus she finishes on a vintage JT remix.
Eleanor Gribbin - FALC (7/1/17)
Eleanor Gribbin's latest mix for Leeds Student Radio kicks off with half an hour of wild rhythms and patterns, aimed to help fire you through work "until FALC* is realised", before fading away into chaotic nothingness, muted fog and cavernous whispers.
*Fully automated luxury communism
Okay so here's the thing. Bandcloud will always be free. That said, I've set up an account with Ko-fi where you can contribute the cost of a cappuccino if you like what I'm doing. Think of it as a digital tip jar. xxx
