Bang bang. Lots of noisy stuff this week. I hate Noisey for making me think it should be noisey.
Milena Kriegs - Live at Tresor New Faces Night
Dark and murky techno recorded live last year at Tresor (as per the title). It's a solid techno set that traverses a variety of darkened shades.
IUNA NIVA - Primeval Guilt
More surly techno, this time more spatial and expansive, with beautiful vocals to boot.
tapedesk - three euro and forty cent
This is great! A vocal piece composed using coins, with different sections determined by a series of coin tosses. It's haunting and affecting, showing that process can still create moving music. You can read more about it on the Bandcamp page. Big thanks to Eoin for sending it my way.
VA - Mean Time
Fascinating project out of Dublin. For some 36 years, Ireland was judged to be 25 minutes and 21 seconds behind GMT. This changed in 1916 following the Easter Rising. You can read about it here. This project is inspired by that shift, and the initial objection to the time difference by Rising leader Countess Markievicz. It's got a range of different styles, largely in the world of sound art. Spoken word, field recordings, all that stuff. Impossible to pick a highlight. Proceeds go to the Abortion Rights Campaign.
