Another Friday, another Bandcloud. Can you bear the excitement?
Webstarr and Jangle - Boundaries
Split tape from these two lads - side A is particularly striking. Strident, brusque techno, broken electronics, rattling synths. Righteous anger. Side B is more straightforward, with beats throughout, but even these beats diverge down different paths.
Khotin - New Tab
Khotin's latest work is an attempt to make 'healing music', a new direction for him, as evidenced by the thoroughly modern title. Gorgeous foggy stuff.
Gavin O'Brien & Neil O'Connor - Without Name OST
I went to see the wonderful Irish film Without Name last week. In short, it's about a surveyor who goes into a forest to study the land and gets lost inside his own mind. The music is wonderful. Given it's a soundtrack it's full of short, unsettling vignettes, but the mood is clear - dank.
Jamaica Suk - For Every Wish
Berlin-based Jamaica Suk's laptop was stolen last year, and with it four years of unreleased music. This track, which she had saved on her phone, was all she had left. She's offered it up for free download as a thank you to everyone who helped her over the past few months.
SoundCloud playlist
Samo DJ - RADIO RAHEEM / MILANO / EMBASSY CO / ITALY / SUMMER OF SAMO / CIAO TUTTI
Samo comes through with a sublime mix that caters to a retro sensibility. It's a mixture of deep house and slightly warm electro - not ice cold, not balmy, more like one of those days that looks sunny but definitely requires a coat and scarf.
SSS Podcast #255 : Piezo
Bristol-based Piezo made this mix for SeekSickSound. It's down-tempo, not ambient, with beats but nothing obtrusive. It's got some Huerco S - time for a flat white!
HNYPOT 228: The Creatrix's From The Inner Ear Down
This is a gnarled and putrid mix of power ambient, dungeon techno and punk. It's not a straightforward, end-to-end mix that builds and grows. There are no rules here.
Sounds of Sónar by LANOCHE
Ahead of Sónar next month, Lanoche shares an hour-long live set featuring new and unreleased tracks. It's gorgeous, sumptuous stuff, in a similar vein to the work of Sprinkles and Ron Trent. If you liked that Valentino & Amila mix for Truants last year, you will love this.
Francis Harris- Kingdoms Potlatch No.1
Francis Harris, of Frank & Tony and Scissor & Thread fame, is prepping a new label and dropping some podcasts in the build-up. This is the opposite of that Creatrix mix, building slowly with a good chunk of beatless haze before getting into the groove.
earthborn visions - experimental - red ips spider (disquiet0281)
"The Disquiet Junto is a group in which musicians respond to weekly, fast-turnaround assignments to compose, record, and share new music." This is one example of a Disquiet Junto contribution, from Earthborn Visions, a label based in Liverpool. The brief was a palindromic loop, with the track essentially mirroring itself.
Low Power FM with Johanna Knutsson & Kate Miller
Self-promo is no promo BUT I made some tracks recently and Johanna Knutsson played one of them on her show on Low Power FM this week. That's a big deal for me! She was unwell so didn't do any mixing, which means my track, a dank and woozy track that unfurls with some menace (shocking, I know) fit in perfectly. It's a great show overall! Tracks from K-Lone and RAMZi feature, for example. Shout for more info on my track! It's about 19 minutes in btw.
Lot of mixes up there. I'm going to see Fire Walk With Me in the cinema tomorrow.
