It's important to acknowledge the negativity that people put out into the world. The next step from there is to eschew the negative and move on to the important task of sharing and celebrating work that deserves shine.
Marcus Fischer - Film Variations
Marcus featured in one of the earliest Bandclouds but not since. I'm not entirely sure why. The music here was written for a short film called Youth, "a sci-fi film about growing old in a world of perpetual youth". I haven't seen it but the music is lovely, drifting beauty that floats around your head unobtrusively. Works as film or mood music.
Lyrels - Conocido
This is my favourite release of the week. It's a sublime body of work that pieces together so many different styles and ideas that I love. This is most evident on the closing track, and I guess the B-side of the tape, the 20-minute '4/24/15 7:35 pm to 7:56 pm'. Catchy! It's ambient, murky, it's got strange metallophonic beats and theremin-esque sounds and features what sounds like religious choral singing at various points. Weirdly brilliant.
Iguana Moonlight - Wild Palms
Previews here of two tracks from the next release on Not Not Fun. As fitting the concept (inspired partially by a 19th-Century novel about a marooned harpooner) and the beautiful artwork, the tracks here ebb and flow like the tide, surf joining the synth.
S H ❌ M E - Suppor.M
SHXME is a new platform that aims to partner with a different non-profit for each release and donate all proceeds to that initiative. For this initial compilation artists were asked to go outside their comfort zone to create something new and unfamiliar. It's got a wide variety of producers, some of which I recognise (Rabit, Dis Fig) and others that are new to me. I was particularly taken with the tracks by Rui Ho, Abyss X and Ariel Zetina, but the whole release is worth checking. Support.fm is a crowdfunding tool to raise and distribute bail money for trans and gender non-conforming people in prison.

Disc 049: some kind of devotion - object blue
Here we have a superb mix from London's Object Blue, who's a brilliant artist and great to follow on Twitter. It's somewhere between ambient and deformed club, stark noise preceding nightmare stomp. It features an excellent Piksel track that I played on my DDR show last month (back on Sunday night!!!). Dank vibes.
mdo - vdj nervous
An absolutely sublime mix, in which I've found myself lost several times, most recently last night c11pm as I waded through the sludge of a certain online comments section.
Cailín - First Taste (JT5X12X1)
A surly banger forthcoming on Jheri Tracks from Dublin DJ and producer Cailín. I've not seen her play but I gathered she was quite a heavy selector, so this track feels almost restrained. That's not to say it's not tough, but it's got a steady vibe that's laced with melancholy. It's on part one of a three-part set that also features excellent work from the likes of Lumigraph, Machine Woman, SBOT and Sage. Cop!
SISTER MIX #28: KAYY DRiZZ - LADIES FIRST
I recently shared a Bmore/Philly/Jersey club mix I made a few years back, but this is the real deal. Thirty tracks in half an hour, this is undeniable energy that goes hard.
DAS SHE CRAY - Sènèkela
This is an hour of what the DJs call Afro-house, a huge amount of fun. I'm not familiar with anything here so can't really say anything more than that but I love it!
Succubass - Live @ DEPTH 5.10.17.mp3
Is this minimal? I don't know. It's deep anyway. Is it fun? I don't know. I listened in work so my definitions are perhaps askew, but it was a solid and engaging listen. Heads down.
SertOne - The Infamous P
You may have heard that rapper Prodigy from Mobb Deep passed away this week at the age of 42. He had suffered from sickle cell anaemia all his life. As a tribute, SertOne was moved to put together this short mix of lesser-known jams from the man. RIP.
As said above, DDR on Sunday. Ibiza trance special. Expect Nalin & Kane.
