Hey there. Hope you're having a good week, as always. Do reply! Tell me how you are! I'm always keen to listen. Words are more valuable than you know.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Optical Frameworks - Vertigo
This one's from a few months back but I discovered it this week when someone linked to the label's Bandcamp. It's in a similar vein to that Silent Season stuff I shared some weeks ago but it's imbued with a more staid approach, full of found sound and dank moments.
Mørkeblå - Meet Me In A Decompression Chamber
This guy's music is generally buy on sight, but it's got the added bonus of remixes from KETEV and Beatrice Dillon. Not much else to say is there? Oh yeah, track 2 is called 'Dungeon Rave'.
Rising Sun Systems - Oberheim Space
Do you want to have a 'Croissant With Stravinsky'? Come join Legowelt on another of his cosmic journeys. This seems to be influenced by Japanese business infomercials and eastern new age as much as Detroit techno and European modernism.
CHONYID - Live at The Northumberland Arms 2..015
I've simply raved about Joseph Curwen on my Twitter and Tumblr lately, and this is another facet of his relentless workload. CHONYID sees him team up with members of The Psychogeographical Commission and BONG to "explore liberation through hearing during the intermediate state". Liminal. This live performance is gnarly.
Skepta - Shutdown
Skepta shut it down. Truss mi daddi.
Cellar Door - Jussquit
I listened to this three times in a row at the weekend. It's quite dark and oppressive yet beautifully heartfelt at the same time.
TRANCECORP. RESEARCH TEAM - spectrum (the rainbow)
I can't say I know anything about TRANCECORP. RESEARCH TEAM bar the brief Twitter bio "transgirl/17/she-her". This is accomplished work for a teen. Detuned spoken word aside, the yawning stretches of ambient drone are quite heartbreaking, riffing on repetition and flange yet creating something new in the process.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's Synth Hero Mix
The wonderful Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith recently provided an hour of synth heroes for NTS Radio, and here she presents the mix for Dazed Magazine. It largely features older works, from the likes of Terry Riley and Laurie Spiegel, but Donato Dozzy shows up too, as does the still active Maggi Payne. My favourite point is the gorgeous rendition of Debussy's 'La fille aux cheveux de lin' by Isao Tomita. Read Smith's own take on each passage here.
MG - Europa Hymn (Official Audio)
Martin Gore of Depeche Mode fame has made a 16-track ambient instrumental album for Mute and this is the first taste of MG. Not bad.
SOUND AWAKENER & LINEAR BELLS- post-modern structuralism
Another teaser, this coming from the collaboration between Soft Recordings head Linear Bells and Vietnamese producer Sound Awakener. They've put together an album called Belonging To The Infinity, and if this is anything to go by it should be a delight.
FACT Mix 485 - Jefre Cantu-Ledesma
Everyone's favourite Mark Ruffalo lookalike has done an incredible mix for FACT mag, and it's filled with gorgeous murky sludge from top to bottom. Like chillwave but good. It's all his own stuff too.
Glenn Astro - User's Guide To
This came on as I was scrolling through SoundCloud the other day and I just couldn't turn it off. It's quite summery, so not quite apt right now, but it's got this wonderful groove to it that's irresistible at any time of year. The whole release is great fun, with 'Gemini' (alongside IMYRMIND) a particular highlight.
Stay safe.
All the best,
Aidan
