Delta Rain Dance appeared in these pages earlier in the year. I said then: "It's a kind of project taking bits and ideas and stretching them out before offering them up to be used as "DJ tool, sampling material, or build your own tracks by combining the individual elements". There's a great selection, moving from gentle Rhodes sounds to from blippy beatless moments, into pulsing rhythms and crunching drums. There's even an outtakes album, which is more of the same in the best way." The release dropped this past week.
It's from Glenn Astro, the German producer who's known for exceptionally warm and crunchy house music alongside Max Graef and IMYRMIND, on a variety of labels including Ninja Tune, WotNot, Apollo, Mule Musiq and his own Money $ex Records. This is quite a departure, entering into territory more abstract, experimental and at times just weird. I love it. The mix he's provided is at points delicate, haunting, sleazy, dubby, raucous and... weird.
