Usually when people ask what the requirements are for a Bandcloud mix I say nothing beyond "35-80 minutes and make sure it's you". In this case, the mix submitted by Glasgow producer and DJ Production Unit was a hefty 137 minutes, but that's quite alright. It's a bit special. We originally spoke in February of this year, with plans in motion for a summer mix. Then the poor lad broke his collarbone and tore some ligaments, so things got put on hold for a while. Several months, pins and plates, here we are with a mix that's both powerful and enlightening.

In his own words: "I wanted a mix that really focused on clattering, sometimes polymetric drums, and I was trying to educate, inform and entertain through lots of use of spoken word snippets. Mixed live in Traktor on two real decks and one virtual deck."

It's similar in a sense to his 2019 release Why Do The Birds Sing?, which came out on Broken20, the label he runs with ruaridhTVO. That release featured glacial ambient, birdsong (of course), gorgeous metallophonic rhythms and spoken word concerning the ever-changing state of the planet. In this mix, the ambience is replaced with trepidatious beats and the environmentalist's perspective is set aside for the urgency of the activist. It moves from skittery percussion to slamming techno (shouts for the inclusion of 'Flash') and never really lets up. I hope it brings you some hope, life and energy.
