Morning. Smaller on the Bandcamp side this week. Sorry about that.
VA - Annual General Meeting Record (Vol. 1) (Anti-Ghost Moon Ray)
Anti-Ghost Moon Ray has put together this "generous and contemplative" compilation to raise funds for MSF. It features a breadth of electronic music, from gated, club-worthy abstractions to unsettled rafts of melody. Rosen's Iliim is particularly intriguing, but there's a lot of great stuff to enjoy here.
Vapor Lanes - A Thin Film
This has been in my wishlist for a long time and to my shame I've not listened to it yet. It was released digitally in late 2014 but it's just been given a tape release by Big Sleep Records (they've also put Now That's What Your Parents Call Drone on tape). It moves between clanking drone and fizzing, plodding techno, even joyous cathedral bells that give way to creaking synth patterns. "everything is disposable & eternal"
Erm & Nickname - Woodland Ritual
This was originally an ultra-limited tape released last September, but it's got the digital treatment, with a few free downloads too. Recorded in the woods, it's a series of songs, jams, even comedy, all refined and condensed into this collection of heartening weirdness. Droning incantations meet meandering solo melodies. There's an interviewhere too.
soft leather daddy - desires of das Fleisch
Jody El aka Soft Leather Daddy put together this mix for CL's Work In Progress show. Nightmarish electro and rugged techno grooves throughout.
John Loveless - KMAH Radio, January 2016
John Loveless hosts his regular KMAH show, and this month he's got a guest mix from his pal Seb Valentine. The mix is quite deep, with hints of 00s minimal, but it closes with a gorgeous number from SVN and Paleo. Props for this entry in the tracklist too: BONUS: AWKWARD CHAT WITH LEVELS ALL WRONG, SOZ
Different Fountains - Adam (DFE008)
Last year's The Snake was a beguiling slice of rolling techno, but this is far less straightforward. Chilling. Wind blows over spooky synth squelches, rumbling on in a completely different fashion. Nightmare stomp. I can't wait to hear the B-side, 'Neve'.
D. Glare - 68 Samples At 68 BPM For Phased Heads (Excerpt)
D. Glare has featured here before, but it's with really great pleasure that I see he's about to drop a cassette on Opal Tapes. Abstract weird techno goodness.
Lutine - Died Of Love (Laura Cannell Remix)
Front and Follow have done two remix albums for Laura Cannell, and now Lutine gets the same treatment. The full package is due early next month and features superb remixes from Shape Worship, Sarah Angliss & Stephen Hiscock and Kemper Norton, among others, and they've launched the project with this cover by Cannell.
#Rojava - awareness & solidarity powered by female:pressure
Thanks to Tristan for bringing this to my attention. female:pressure has gathered tracks from different artists in solidarity and appreciation for the women in the Rojava area in Syria, where women are helping build a new, equal society from scratch. It's a large collection, some 25 tracks at present, and features a fittingly wide range of styles. There's techno, spoken word, dark post-club, plenty to get through and absorb.
Hope you're well. Stay well. If not, I'm always here.
