Hi. The days are already getting longer, the wind stronger, the tunes better.
Linafornia - Yung
Sweet beat tape from LA's Linafornia. Dusty hip-hop grooves, a Busta Rhymes flip — nothing groundbreaking but it's head-noddingly enjoyable all the same.
Θ - Last
Like a slightly less dramatic and certainly less oppressive Roly Porter. If Third Law is too much for you, you might like this one.
Oliver Lieb - Inside Voices
I mentioned an old Oliver Lieb remix a few weeks back, specifically a proggy take on Origin's 'Wide-Eyed Angel'. He had a long run of such trancey proggy stuff, as well as LSG and under a bunch of other names. I happened upon this excellent ambient release for the Irish Psychonavigation label this week, from this time last year. It's spacey and swooshy and full of dark melodies and acres of delay. Deep.
Emma Winston - Browser Pieces
Emma Winston, who also records synthpop as Deerful, dropped a lovely collection of instrumental tracks composed only using browser-based tools (Webaudio Drum Machine, Soundbox, WebSID, Otomata and Circuli) over the course of an evening.
Call Super - Gabrielle
Not new, but I just happened upon this one a few days ago. Call Super is in Dublin tonight for a four-hour set and I'm pretty excited. This is a vibey and blissful rework of Roy Davis Jr's classic house number Gabrielle.
The Bunker Podcast 117 - DJ Nobu
Nobu in class Bunker podcast shocker. Starts at a crazy pace and never lets up. Finishes with some Surgeon in the jungle too. Nice.
Maŕa - Wrong Turn
This is nice and deep, slow-burning melodic techno. One to watch?
SHM Podcast #53: Departures + Arrivals by Kate Carr
Kate Carr's Flaming Pines was one of the first labels to feature in Bandcloud, and it really helped shape my interest in that particular mode of ambient and found sound. In this mix for Shimmering Moods she moulds together field recordings in Tesco and humming, swollen synth patterns.
Violet - Body/Soul set for Atelier Versace SS16
"The #AtelierVersace Spring/Summer 2016 is for powerful women who can achieve their dreams with great elegance and beauty. Watch the video of the show and discover more on versace.com #Versace." Violet, of AMOR, One Eyed Jacks and Rádio Quântica fame (and who also did a track for the BC comp way back), contributed the soundtrack for the recent Versace show. Quite a big deal. M1 vibes, chuggy techno, ebullient house, it's a thrilling set of tracks and a huge look for Violet. Big up!
In Disarray 009 - Chrononautz
It's been a while since I've shared anything from these guys. This mix for brutalist fans In Disarray is a heady tread through squawking sounds and the more familiar heavy techno you might expect from Chrononautz.
Have a good weekend innit.
