Hey. It's been a heavy week. That's not entirely reflected below, but it is a bit.
Olm - Little Boy
"'Little Boy' is an aural representation of the artist's childhood." Pretty grim tbh.
Marika Papagika - The Further the Flame, the Worse it Burns Me: Greek Folk Music in New York City, 191-928
You can probably tell from the title if you'll like this or not. Crackly recordings of early 20th-Century folk music, thrilling vocals and swirling piano and strings. Gripping stuff.
Rhythm Based Lovers - Frequency Illusion / Number Games
Total bouncy house goodness (out to Tim, and also to CL). I don't always include stuff like this, sometimes it feels too safe or obvious (it's a far cry from the album above) but I enjoyed it hugely so here it is.
Snufmumriko - Chimera
This is lovely, just hazy ambient from Gothenburg to soundtrack your afternoon drift.
SoundCloud playlist!!!
FTR Radio Mix 8/12/16 - Dark and Lonely Water
Super mix of "unhappy music" from Becky Marshall. It features sorrowful bangers from the likes of Karamika, Lutto Lento, Gesloten Cirkel and Carl Craig in his 69 guise.
WEB://GH0ST - BACKGROUND MUSIC FOR SURFING THE WEB #2
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmf. Thanks to Joe for this one. I was in a right funk the other day, nothing was working — techno, disco, house, it was all fine but I just couldn't connect to any of it at all — and I put this on for the second time that day and all was right.
Roza Roza - ---
#Absolutebelter. An 11-minute jam from Lobster Theremin's Mörk side-label. Spends a good four minutes pounding away with introductory tones, then really starts to build with some solid chugging. Several rabbit holes later, well, you get the drift.
Discount Drones - Grand Opening Drone
On the surface, this is another standard lengthy drone of fizzling modulated noises, eerie sounds coming and going throughout. But wait. The artwork basically the Dunkin' Donuts logo. It's described as "an affordable meditation on the illusion of continuity amidst instability and transience". It's tagged as #.99USD. Drone with a hearty sense of humour, then. And I do it a disservice calling it standard, it's excellent.
lastminuteman - Vig (DJ Sewers' Haven't Got That Vig Phonecall Dub)
Squelchy slow-burning techno house fun. I know lastminuteman has ties to my man Daire from First Second/All City/Jheri Tracks but I don't know any more than that. Also DJ Sewers, no idea. Watch this space I guess.
JM Moser - Brown Rice # 82 w/ Nadia Khan Guestmix
Nadia Khan throws down for JM Moser's BCR show. It's a nice selection of house cuts, not always mixed to perfection but once each track kicks in you'll forget about that.
Don't forget, I did a mix too this week. Fashioned by Aidan, hosted by Bandcloud.
