I guess this needs an intro. I'm off to London tonight. I will be attending
some gigs. If you see me, say hi!
EMBASSY - EMBASSY
Mmmf, this is some really lovely crunchy ambient from Otherworldly Mystics.
Love Cult - Educated Guess
Deep and swoonsome jam from Love Cult. It swirls and spins for nearly seven minutes, ghostly vocals over icy chords and scattershot percussion.
VA - THE PROMISE OF ARRIVAL "a compilation benefit for migrants and refugees"
As it says above, this compilation hopes to raise money for a list of organisations helping migrants and refugees in Europe (full list available on the album page). It features wonderful noisy drone stuff from artists like Rabih Beaini, Lawrence English and a host of others whose names are new to me.
Federico Cataldo - FERTILE FANCY
Weird and brilliant release from Urban Arts Berlin. There's a kind of back story inspired by some 1300s Italian warrior, talk of "ancient sampling, sonic archeology" [sic] and you can take that or leave it, imo. Just dive in to the wild operatic vocals, stretched and pulled liked taffy through the ages. WILD.
Kate Carr - Live set - Bello Bar - Dublin - 29.4.2016
Kate Carr played in Dublin recently and I missed it. Outraged, so I am. Thankfully her set was recorded, and it's wonderful. Combining her wonderful field recordings with the most delicate of synth sounds, it's a perfect encapsulation of her approach.
Leit Motif - Lathe Of Heaven
Leit Motif recently followed me, so I checked out some of their stuff. This is great. It's a languid piece that ebbs and flows, slightly squeaking sounds interrupting a calm vista. The full release is available on Bandcamp.
We Will Fail - 426 - Electronic Explorations
The latest in Rob Booth's EE series comes from We Will Fail, aka Aleksandra Grünholz. It's dark and moody, and generally quite excellent.
Haddon - videogamemusicmixtwo
In which Haddon, of Cong Burn Waves fame, puts together an hour (exactly) for videogamemusic, on which he has a tape due in a short time. It's full of strange music you've never heard of, nor will again, except when you go to play this again. Verygoodmusic.
Tropa Macaca – Vida
Perhaps it's lazy to share a Trilogy Tapes release, but a) it's really quite good and b) my SoundCloud standards were unfortunately high this week; not much grabbed me. As I said, this is ace. Strange, jangly guitars, haunting loops — I feel like I'm losing my words here. Only so much strange electronic music one can describe badly each week.
that's no moon - underwater acid jam
This is a few months old but I came across it this week. It's a really nice squelchy acid banger, wavy house music kinda stuff. Lots of cowbell. GREAT artist name.
SOUNDCLOUD PLAYLIST LEST I FORGET AGAIN
Time to recommend a new mailout. Fallow Media is starting the fortnightly Pleasant Bits of the Internet, Collected, and you should sign up. Music, art, literature etc.
