Back to the norm. Gotta send thanks to Tristan! In case you missed by spammy tweets, I did a tape mix for Spool's Out on Monday just gone. Check out detailshere. There's loads in here today, because there is.
Dim Grimm - Perlissop EP
Cool weird noise experimental strange loops free.
VA - Under Bright Ghosts #2
This compilation from Herhalen is raising funds for Refuweegee, a Glasgow charity that aims to provide refugees with bespoke welcome packs. Pretty cool. It's got music from BC faves like April Larson and Kek-W, some weird, some heartfelt. All good.
Linear Bells - This is a new world
Linear Bells is usually kinda ambient, but this is beats. Three lengthy tracks, like 20 minutes, in fact, a slowly undulating track that drifts like the tide. One to get lost in at the beach, as long as you don't fall asleep and get swept away, or mugged.
Scheich in China - Scheich in China
This is so excellent. It's from VIS, the label that brought you the excellent mix tape from Christoph De Babalon and Nina a few months ago. It's dark and sludgy, heavy and noisy. Really, really good stuff. Could listen all day. Probably will.
BAKK // Aurora Halal on Intergalactic FM
Aurora Halal in the mix on Dutch radio. Sinister, electrifying techno, as you'd expect.
this this - Linear Obsessional Live #10 - 23/07/16
The wonderful Phil Maguire performs live for Linear Obsessional. Strange weird noises.
Cherushii - Thin Line feat Maria Minerva (David Last Remix)
This feels like 2008 and I LOVE it. The original is a cool shimmery disco number and this turns up the elastic bass and leaves the breathy vocals be. It's a jam.
en creux live @ SM-LL label event, Cafe Oto, London, 21/07/2016
More live noise, this time from "taiwanese reductionist electronic musician" en creux. The repeated squeaks from about nine minutes are horrifically sublime.
meursault lethe - heimdallnetworksandintimatemovements(fornication)
Um, so, yeah. This is odd. It's also odd and noisy, but breaks into floating loveliness that's undercut by strange clanks. It's got several movements throughout its 10 minutes, so stick with it.
Ssiege - B3. She Is A Party Girl (UNTO 04.5 w/lbl)
Just a banger, really. UN.T.O. is based in Milan and this seems to be the first release from Ssiege. Could be an alias, could be someone entirely new. Who cares?
preview of blue twenty-two: Wild Anima - You Saw The Light
The next release on Blue Tapes & X-Ray Records is from Wild Anima, a multi-person group from France that seeks to investigate "the multi dimensions of human feelings and emotions". They do music and movement, and this feels like monastic chant in the best way possible. Think The Name of The Rose meets The Wicker Man.
It's Just Music Baby! presents - Wist Rec
This is the first in a new mix series from Shimmering Moods, and it comes from Gary Mentanko, founder of Wist Rec, an Irish label I've never heard of. My bad. The whole mix is gorgeous, soft ambient for rainy summer days (we've had a lot of them lately, including today).
Karabasan Drane - Live - XKatedral at Fylkingen 2016-03-12
This is a few months old but I couldn't not share it. Karabasan Drane is a Swedish duo made up of Jin Mustafa and Robin Smeds Mattila. Descriptions include words like "molasses-drenched" and "stranglehold of the mare", and such terminology is apt. It's dark and searing, as much influenced by chilling folk as by mechanical techno.
Hypnotic Groove Mix #110 - Suspiciously Delicious
And finally, this wonderful mix from Suspiciously Delicious, a crew made up of Violet, Iona and Elles. From Soul II Soul and Urban Tribe to Kassem Mosse and this mega track by Lukas Nystrand von Unge that feels like a rugged jam cut from the bones of Livin' Joy's 'Dreamer'. It's a super party mix. They've got Cleoslaptra in London tonight.
So yeah. Spool's Out. Website. Insta.
