Hello. Festivals and bank holidays all around, but not for me.
ROW - Live Den
Live Den is the latest tape from Power Moves Library, the limited-run tape series. Kev did the last Bandcloud mix, remember? This is a collaboration from him and Cheryl Fraser, aka Sealadder and it's a weird choppy electronic melange. There's an interesting piece on its gestation here, in which Kev documents their different approaches and how that impacted on this project. It's part freeform murk, choppy beats, wibbling guitar. These ideas seem to congeal in 'Competitive Dub', and collapse on 'Magnetawan'.
Lesley Flanigan - Hedera
Lesley Flanigan is a US vocalist and sonic experimentalist. The title track, a slowly building 20-minute piece, features a series of layered voices over judding rhythms, expanding and opening up with ever more vocals throughout. 'Can Barely Feel My Feet', meanwhile, is a quarter of that length and seems a gentler, more chilling affair.
nwyvre - MORRIGU
Sick banging weird techno recorded in a fort in Donegal. The BC page says "Seven extracts from a live session at Grianán Ailigh during Blue Hour", and I got in touch with the artist to find out what this meant: "Blue Hour is essentially early dawn, it can be a kind of other-worldly time." Really sink into this one. It's heavy and might be off-putting but there are untold charms here.
VA - Imagine, A Computer In Your Own Home (Talahachi)
The title of this compilation is just gas*. The music is sci-fi-inspired stuff, ponderous electro and techno that looks to the future. Au Voyage's 'Neonium' is a delight, but it's sadly just a minute long. Thankfully Adam Rowe's 'Ponytails', which follows directly, passes six minutes.

SIBELIUS X NINJA SWORD X FOLKHÄLSAN - FINLANDIA (ALEXALFONS CLASS WAR EDIT)
Post-club meets Sibelius. Can you even believe it? I don't even know if this is any good, I just love the audacity of it.
XOSAR - LOST TAPE JAMS
It's been a while since I've included Xosar. Here is a half-hour set of lost tape jams (well, duh) that she uncovered while moving. Pretty sick stuff.
LN-CC Store Mix 066 - ELENA COLOMBI
London DJ Elena Colombi digs deep here in a wonderful mix for LN-CC. It's a serious mix of rough grooves and sounds that are both enticing and upsetting. Killer stuff.
Selectors Podcast 010 - Andrew Lyster
This mix is so good. One that I went back to a day after first hearing it, and that doesn't happen all that often, with all the music in the world.
Call Super at Dekmantel Festival 2016
No surprise to see this one, coming from your neighbourhood Call Super Stan. Two hours of the man in his element: "I was not concerned about each mix being smooth as a petal, my concern was only where we were going." There's Grace Jones, Bedrock, Gat Decor, he was largely drawing for classics, familiar and unfamiliar, in this one. Is that an oxymoron? Objekt and Silent Servant feature too, though, as CS paints on a broad canvas blending colours and materials to create a sublime end result.
Native Instrument - Live Berlin Atonal 2016 - NK presents at OHM
Native Instrument is a collaboration of two artists, Felicity Mangan, who deals in field recordings, and Stine Janvin Motland, who provides vocals and weird samples. This is a live show from Atonal in Berlin, and it's pretty much what you'd expect on reading the preceding words. I'm into it.
