Hi. I'm at Unsound right now but this is still going out.
K'an - Babel
Time Released Sound previously put out that incredible Maps And Mazes by Olga Wojciechowska. This one isn't quite on that level but it's special all the same. It's an album of emotive ambient/sound art, all searing chords and weird sound effects, as well as some muted old piano melodies. Something about the impossibility of communication in an ever fragmented world, "a paean to our inner discourse".
TALsounds - Lifter + Lighter
TALsounds ascends Hausu Mountain once more with this album of ethereal synth pop. That is the most reductive description I could possibly afford the album, however, as it touches on new age, electronica, almost-techno and more. It's mad, in the best way.
Resina - Resina
By the time you read this I will hopefully have seen Resina perform (on Thursday morning, hangover permitting etc). This is a striking album of cello music, gentle playing and harsh sounds combining to make a fascinating album. Badly described.
Joonatan Elokuu & Aura Shining Green - Tästä laulujen maasta, sinä valkoinen joutsen
The title above translates as "From this land of songs, you white swan" (thanks to Frozen Reeds for that). It's a soundtrack for a dance performance that was recorded live, probably one of the only things that will feature in Bandcloud that's recorded on a Fender Telecaster.
Anthony Naples – Slice Of Life EP (TTT049)
Why am I even sharing this? Like you won't already be on new Trilogy Tapes, especially when it's the return of Anthony Naples. 'Lekker' is superb, 'Momentos Mágicos' is weird; it's almost like tech-trance or something, beefy kicks and a thick, tangible bass alongside drawn-out strings and gloopy synth melodies. It works. Furthermore, TTT just announced a new release from Call Super as Elmo Crumb, called I'm Still Dizzy. As of right now (Wednesday afternoon), no previews.
Underground Heroes 020 - Sold
Chicago's Sold provides a mix for Roy England's Underground Heroes series. It's a twisted take on modern techno, lurching forward like a groove-infected zombie, before shifting into freakout acid mode. Glorbin' it up.
Shifty Science - Ola (Savile & Steve Mizek Edit)
More Chicago goodness here. Argot have just released a collection of tracks from little-known producer Ola, called Lab Work 91-96, and to go alongside that Savile and Steve Mizek have taken four of these tracks and brought them up to date. This is a perfect edit of 'Ola', with its simple organ line and repeated vocal. Apparently it gets people singing along!
009 - Unrushed by Dtekk
This was shared by That Special Record, so thanks for that. It's a hazy suite of ambient tracks, perfect for the change in the air as the balmy weather that's crept into October gives way to crisp air and dark mornings.
Cc - Snail That Melteth Away into Slime / *Live*
With a title like that, you know this is going to be weird. It's a half-hour set that jams between different percussive modes, at times with hints of Plastikman, also delving into some eerie synth work. CC is Couples Counseling, an alias of Philadelphia's Virginia De Las Pozas, and she's affiliated with the Embalming Lately label.
HAPSKL011: Cosmic Garden
The latest from Happy Skull comes from Italian producer Cosmic Garden. It's a lush and breezy affair, reminiscent of last year's Skyway Motel from Creta Kano. Fitting, then, that CK is on the remix, tackling both 'Preoccupata' and 'Sealaconda' with very different approaches. The dub of the latter is particularly special, though the whole thing is a vibe. The bells in 'Preoccupata' are like the cathedral bells that sound in from Dublin's Christ Church, joined by sun-drenched 80s synths. As I said, lush.
If you didn't catch my first show on Dublin Digital Radio on Sunday night, you can listen back here on Mixcloud. Peep the awkward DJ Dad pose.
