Halloween is over but there's lots of strange music in the air. There's always time for some weirdness, and if not, well, who are you and why are you subscribed?!
Strategy - Music For Lamping
Strategy aka Paul Dickow tweeted that he had some hard copies of this ambient album from 2008 available. I hadn't come across it so went and had a listen, and it's wonderful. It shimmers and glows like the blinding sun reflecting off a placid lake in winter.
The Parlour Trick - Wandering Room
This is maaaad, like the score to a silly yet creepy horror movie inspired by those half-dreams you have when you lie down after a long day at work and awake feeling confused by the memory of something sinister. Simply marvellous.
Senyawa - Brønshøj (Puncak)
Another wonderful excursion into unknown sounds, Senyawa really bring excellence to the table with this one. I'm incapable of doing it justice so read this from the album's blurb: "The combination of Rully’s extreme vocal techniques and the curious output from Wukir’s homemade string instrument, the bambu wukir, still sounds like nothing else on Spaceship Earth." It's true.
Arlene Tucker & Guy Dowsett - Hypnomatic
Rounding out this section with some good old-fashioned field recording weirdness. A snip at 15 minutes, it's a journey in sound that was also part of a recent performance, where the dancer wore sensors and actively manipulated Dowsett’s sound design with her movements.

Hadj Sameer - Hadjigoku
I absolutely LOVE the artwork for this. Kind of like, Buffy-style monster makeup meets 80s shlock colour scheme. The tune is on that O$VMV$M sample tip, ye olde movie sounds with a hint of modern beats, but not enough to make it a sample trip or a club track. Other-worldly.
Schloss Mirabell - Cellophine
I've played this weird and unnerving track so many times. It feels like that weird theme in 'Karmacoma', but that particular bit is foregrounded in this beatless wail. Spoopy.
Yussef Kamaal - Strings Of Light
Lil jazzy number here, as Yussef Kamaal, the duo of drummer Yussef Dayes and keyboardist/ drummer Kamaal Williams (aka Henry Wu), drop this album of spontaneous workouts. Drums and keys, all day long, with a wild trumpet solo in the middle.
BEN VIDA 'Damaged Particulates' (Extract) — SP075
Do you like experimental? This is it. Clink clank screw. Wibble wobble. ZZZHHHHHHH.
Χάρων - All Souls (Mixtape)
After Halloween comes November, the month of All Souls. Celebrate/mourn with this strange mix from, of course, Charon himself. It's got some harrowing chords and rattling beats. Cry.
firaasbeats - Zizou
Lovely gloopy synths over choppy percussion from this German-based producer.
Sarah Davachi live at Bleep43 - 6th October 2016
She puts out classic albums three times a year, but she's also a super live performer. Enjoy this recording of Sarah Davachi's recent UK debut, which took place at the Thames Tunnel Grand Entrance Hall, a pretty cool choice of venue.
ELLLL #01 29.10.16
Elll's first show on DDR features two Bruce tracks in the first half an hour - not even the bangers. The weird ones. Just to give you a hint of what she's going for.
Tried a new font but it didn't work out.
