Hey all. We've a bumper edition here, brough on by seasonally affected content overload. Enjoy it while you can, before the year-end lists kick in.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rick Ross - Christ of St John of the Cross
Not that Rick Ross. This is from a Glasgow producer and it's laden with choppy murky sounds, all gloop and sludge. I like.
Wakesleep - Panorama / Tracker
Just two tracks here, both under three minutes. Electronic experiments that are both lulling and jarring.
Saty - Monument 2
I got really lost in this one. Four tracks, each some 30ish minutes in length, it's in a similar vein to stuff by Biosphere and 76:14-era Global Communication - glacial, frosty sounds that stretch and drift like a soft sponge in your ears.
Laica - Duality Field #1 // Duality Field #2
Laica, aka Dave Fleet, hosts the fortnightly Numbers Broadcast radio show. These lengthy originate from when he took out his field recorder and captured some sound but then couldn't find a use for it. So he decided to share it with the world roughly as is, after some panning and stretching that is. A second one appeared lately, just as intriguing as the first. He bashfully remarks that "almost nothing happens" - that's selling himself short of course. Dig in.
Chubby Wolf
This is a general introduction - I only discovered the Chubby Wolf discography after finding an album by Celer on DRONARIVM. Celer was the work of a couple, Danielle Baquet-Long and Will Long, but since 2009 it was just Long. I then learned that Baquet-Long, who also recorded solo as Chubby Wolf, died suddenly of heart failure, hence the solo aspect of the work. It's a tragic loss, but any money that's made from the the Chubby Wold Bandcamp goes to Unicef. There are 17 releases on her page, and a few of them are free so you can dip your toe if you're unsure. It's worth it though.
Astral Plane Recordings - Heterotopia
Cool blog Astral Plane have put together a compilation featuring the work of some key players in exciting club music today. It's got a load of tracks built on melodic, ambient synths and underpinned by thrillingly invigorating kicks.
Miss Modular - No Clouds
Speaking of cool blogs, Truants has set up a new venture called Temporary Trax. Here's the blurb
"Ever since the inception of Truants, we have been proudly dedicated to providing you with the best content while remaining free of advertising and other external influences. We’ve managed to do this through a certain level of self-funding, as well as through donations from our wonderful readers. It goes without saying that this means an awful lot to us and we’ve been hard at work to offer you something a little more tangible in return. Temporary Trax is a new feature in which we offer you the chance to download something completely exclusive in exchange for a donation. 100% of your donation goes towards our running costs. Each track will stay live for two weeks and once we roll it out you can no longer get the previous offering. Once it’s gone, it’s gone."

Eva Bowan - 'Hyperspectacle EP'
Polish born and Brighton based, Eva Bowan is one of those multi-disciplinary artists who spreads her talents across a range of media - music, sound design, graphic design and photography. This EP for the unfortunately named KLDSCP RECORDS is quite good, lumpy, gelatinous sounds mixing with shifting ambient drones and mutated vocals.
Capital Xtra FM Radio Guest Mix: Avalon Emerson
I'm a big fan of Avalon Emerson - her productions are intelligently crafted yet perfect for dance floors and her DJ mixes are just loads of fun. This mix for Capital Xtra FM follows in that vein, with chunky, bouncy tracks like Mood II Swing's 'Function', the riotous Tessela remix of Alex Coulton's 'Too Much Talk', and even Dublin's own Terriers.
Katie Gately - Pivot
I've been super excited about this one for some time. I'm a huge fan of Katie Gately anyway, but this 14-minute epic piece for Fat Cat defies language, so just sink and let it carry you into its bizarre sonic universe.
Ivy Barkakati - Enxubat
This five-minute blast of noise features on a new cassette from Spanish label Angoisse.
Helena Hauff - Shatter cone
Helena Hauff, of Golden Pudel fame, drops four tracks of acidic techno 'Hiemal Quietus' is celebratory and defiant, it's probably my pick, but the slow grind of 'Furthermost Nevermore' is tempting too.
The Rattler Proxy - Death Machine (Jokers Of The Scene Remix)
The Jokers have been pretty quiet since their album dropped, so this nine-minute remix is most welcome. It's very JOTS.
Sebastian Mullaert & Eitan Reiter - Reflections of Nothing
Ambient is in right now, apparently. As you'll note from the disclaimer/mantra at the top of these emails, Bandcloud has been defiantly ambient since day one. So I'm glad it's getting attention and there's more choice than ever right now. This album is delightful.
NOYZELAB : 16x16 NEURON CELL MEDITATION (edit)
A different kind of ambient here, this tape comes with a warning: "This cassette tape of electronically produced meditation drones has been precisely composed and engineered for listening, relaxing and formal meditation practice (movement or stationary). It is not advisable to play this tape while driving or operating heavy machinery, or any other activity that requires you to concentrate on the task at hand. No responsibility or liability is accepted for use or misuse of this material in any way whatsoever." I can't wait to get my copy.
kuupuu
I discovered kuupuu just through a click-trip on Bandcamp - similar artists to, etc. Her Soundcloud is a mixed bag, and really it's a pretext for getting her on to this mailout. Check out her stuff that appears on Free Music Archive http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Kuupuu/ - it's playful, it's gentle, it's calming, it's weird. There's a load of stuff to check out.
haido - Back Up In D&D On This Primo Track
Aaaand here's a plug. I did a mix of Primo tracks and the Loose Synths crew were kind enough to host it. Th tracks are simply irresistible - it's Primo, of course they are - and they come from Nas, Guru, Mos Def, Jay-Z in his prime, KRS-One, Biggie, Rah Digga and more. It's a party mix so play it over the weekend or something. Get down.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Until next week.
All the best,
Aidan
