Sup. How you doing. Music from both hemispheres this week.

Redahan - The Death Rock Flowered
This is really great. Sean Redahan is a really considered, thoughtful producer, and this release for Evenings & Weekends, a new label that's part of the Loud Mouth family, is a wonderful introduction to the man. It's a full and coherent album, it's warm and vibrant and haunting in all the right points, inspired by other artists yet still singular in its own way.
Midnight Special Lab - Supermarket Music
I came to this through the languid beats of Felicity Yang's 'Cloud Forest' (appropriate, no?). Tropical flutes and loon sounds meet delicate trap kicks. Surprisingly lovely. OBA's 'Babylon Airport ' sees a playful, jaunty guitar workout get caught up in a whirlwind of drone. Nico Niquo also seems like one to watch. It's not all to my taste but it's a nice intro to the label.
TW-16: Casual Look - Katey Siren feat. Katey Red & Jesse Slayter
Worlds collide here, as Mardi Gras comes to Aberdeen - or should that be other way around? If it's new to you, NOLA Bounce is a genre from, as you probably imagined, New Orleans, Louisiana. It owes a debt to 'Drag Rap', a mid-80s electro rap from The Showboys. You might be familiar with Juvenile's 'Back That Azz Up' - that's a famous example, released in 1998. Around that time, Katey Red got on the mic. Katey is a long-standing proponent of Sissy Bounce, a more gender-fluid and subversive take on the sound. This monster was a gift from the Tuff Wax crew to celebrate fat Tuesday - a bit more exciting than pancakes, right? PS This history was necessarily potted. For more on Southern rap read this excellent book.
b.lind - .museum (PH024)
What does art sound like? b.lind caputured the sounds of a museum and translated these recordings into this release for Phinery, who also tapped a bunch of artists to remix those sounds. A fascinating release on paper, but thankfully it also comes together in practice. Gaapiiiii and companion, Dave Swensen contribute excellent takes, to name but two.
Finn - Only Boy (Strict Face's 'Forever Your Papi' Remix)
Finn's 'Keep Calling' was a true hit for the Hull lad last year, and Local Action are about to drop a four-pack of remixes. First up is Strict Face's version of 'Only Boy', a smooth chop of Finn's more frantic original. It's just as expertly crafted, yet the mood is wistful, heartfelt. That Spanish guitar is inspired! Pre-order is here.
Digital Tsunami 063 - Semtek
Fairly banged it out, didn't he? Semtek's got a new tune out soon, and it's not even on DBA. This mix is a frantic rush through some breakneck techno, mixed to perfection.
Miss Roisin Murphy - Gone Fishing
Róisín Murphy is back, and she's singing in English again. This is bright, airy and, dare I say it, funky. It's got a more organic feel than 'Let Me Know' and 'You Know Me Better', but that's no bad thing. Enjoy. Maybe we'll even get a Toddla T remix.
DJ Deece - Mix For Krystal Klear Rinse FM Show
My friend Niall put together this effortlessly fun house mix for Krystal Klear's Rinse show this week. Just so much fun. Don't know how I missed that Leon Vynehall track, it's a bit of a jam.
WHIPPED CREAM - Unconditional
A pretty monstrous club track this, the latest from the Unspeakable Records camp, coming from Whipped Cream, a Vancouver-based DJ and producer. At the faster and more frenetic end of things, it's kind of like 'Harlem Shake' on steroids. Maybe not what you might expect here but it's a lot of fun. We can't be serious all the time?
MOIRÉ - THEME
Textured, foggy house from Moiré. Not breaking the mould, but meeting his own very high standard of quality nonetheless. Shades of Joy O & Boddika's 'Mercy' in there.
Alex Cobb: "Chantepleure"
Speaking of fog, take a look at this gorgeous artwork. Alex Cobb of the Students of Decay label presents three heart-tugging pieces of drawn-out ambience. The third one is called 'Disporting With A Shadow', which makes me weep just a little bit.
Le Tigre - Deceptacon
When I started Bandcloud I used to throw in the odd classic. Here we go again, as this popped into my feed somehow. Never unwelcome.
