It's that time. So yes I have some seasonal dread. Lots of it, in fact. Sorry it's late but I'm pretty much dead right now.
The Seventh Cyrkle - The Seventh Cyrkle
I can't be certain, but it seems to me that Villa 9 produce fake soundtracks to lost or forgotten films and TV shows — though these could be made up too! This is a wonderfully dark collection of spooky vignettes, whispered incantations and whatnot. OooooooOOOooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooh.
Jenn Kirby - Mirror Mirror OST
This is a real soundtrack to a real show, albeit a stage show from a few years back.Mirror Mirror seems to have been some sort of balletic take on Sleeping Beauty, and the accompanying music is appropriately ominous (in all honesty I found it by searching for #dank on Bandcamp).
Howlround - Tales From The Black Tangle
LOOOOOOOOOOOONG DROOOOOOOOOOOOOONE.
Wizards Tell Lies - Summations & Rituals Live
This is a really excellent long-form piece, I can't quite describe it but it's singularly dank and ominous, perfect for your Halloween parties.
Demonic Glare - Critical Dissent
This is conceptually brilliant and wonderful in its execution. If you've followed Dom you'll know he regularly makes crushingly noisy material. This is quieter, more subtle — I don't want to say more thoughtful because that would imply that the harsher stuff is without thought, which is definitely not the case, but it's just a different mode.
Dawn Tuesday with Mystified - Chinampas
Aaaaaaaaaaand float back to your tank with this one. Lovely.
J a b u - WE WERE JUST SITTING THERE/NOT TALKING
I've listened to this weird piece a load of times. Brief spoken word interludes, harrowing music, all over 10 minutes. Sadness in a tune.
Baka Gaijin Podcast 041 by D.K. Aka 45 ACP
This is a lot of fun, features Mood Hut-esque joints and 80s boogie stuff.
Kim Anh LIVE at A Club Called Rhonda - 2015.9.25
This live recording from LA is also bunch of fun, not quite your spooky jams though.
Broshuda - I Never Had A Sega
I also never had a Sega. Never had any console actually, which puts me in a strange position whenever I see people talking about their relationship with music from video games. Ah well. This track, pulled from Broshuda's forthcoming tape for Sonic Router, it's short but full of character.
BIS Radio Show #805 with Tama Sumo and Tornado Wallace
It's your seasonal BiS inclusion! Tama Sumo plays a riotously fun set, all liquid house and exuberant disco. Also, they're something so joyful and excitable about the way she speaks, it's infectious. Tornado Wallace is a name I know only from those Rinse adverts at the start of their podcasts, but his set is also a dream, notably featuring a new one from H.O.M., not to mention classics from Sade and Ten City.
Truant: Soraya - Sorry 4 The Wait
Truants head honcho Soraya drops her first mix in quite some time, and it's a huge barrel of fun. Basically a big load of danceable house music.
Sorry 4 the wait 2.
