Heyyyo. My internet's been pretty rubbish this week. In the scheme of things, no biggie, but you know.
rRoxymore - Tautologies EP
This is a nice set of bangers. Elements of mid-00s minimal combined with proper beats for some super party music. The title does not apply, this release is perfectly judged.
OCTO CHAMP - Blenheim Gardens EP
This is a cool set of tracks made to reflect a time after their creator moved from his studio to new digs, then found himself moving into a slower, more thoughtful space. There's a really great sample from Warren G's 'What's Love...' rework. Incidentally, that single was one of the first CDs I ever owned.
Pyramids of Space - Volume 13
This act put out an amaaaazing tape last year, if I recall correctly referred to as an "archival transmission" from 92-96 Cornwall. This is a lot more crisp and clean, so maybe it's newer stuff? Who knows. The first few are like space-age dubstep, then it moves into thrilling acid electro territory.
Wakesleep - Three Thousand Flora
This is a nice and weird collection of hazy electronic pieces from this Texas native. Kind of reminds me of a more abstract, colder Huerco S., especially the lengthy 'Feminine'.
Norman Records Podcast #12: Christina Vantzou with John Also Bennett
Christina Vantzou's album No 3 on Kranky is one of my favourites this year, so good I can't even find the words to write about it (much like that XIII release on Gang of Ducks). I've listened to this podcast for Noraman four or five times, this week, it's just that wonderful. Popol Vuh's Aguirre theme, Steve Hauschildt, amazing music new and old that I've never heard before (especially that Roger Roger extract!), it's stellar.
DJ SOTOFETT - TRIBUTE TO "SORE FINGERS"
Total percussive bliss! Due soon on Fit Siegel's Fit label.
Vision ID - Dream Loss
Scuzzy, hypnotic, angry, driving technoooo.
Litter & Munma (Feat. Mash)- Guesthouse
No idea who this is I won't lie, but it kinda reminds me of the Holden remix of 'Reckoner', before getting a bit post-shoegaze.
poly|motion - poly|motion #2
No idea who this is either (!), props to Rose Mardit for tweeting about it. Really dank and plodding techno. "Slow is sexy," their bio says.
Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch - Like Water Through The Sand
This is due on FatCat's 130701 imprint, and it's a nice set of piano and strings compositions. Some are better than others, but 'Minnesang', 'Tulsi' and 'Scale of Volatility' are my favourites.
Hope you find something you like here. In the meantime, I've written a few things for Truants lately that you might like. Check here!
